February 15th news, Amazon said on Wednesday that it has successfully carried out the first commercial drone delivery service in the UK, marking the official commercial operation of drones.
According to foreign media reports, in a postal operation center in the UK, workers loaded a shoebox-sized package containing an Amazon FireTV and a bag of popcorn onto a quadcopter drone. Then, the plane took off from a small logistics center near Cambridge, and it took only 13 minutes to deliver the 4.7-pound package to the British customer, who became the first consumer to enjoy the drone delivery service.
It is reported that there are two consumers in the UK who have the opportunity to participate in Amazon's drone delivery service. After placing an order, the drone will automatically deliver the goods to the designated place, and the whole flight process and landing will be controlled by itself. According to Amazon's ultra-early design concept, the delivery time of drones will not exceed 30 minutes.
Although the current quota is limited, Amazon promises that with the gradual liberalization of drone delivery quota, hundreds of people will enjoy the service in the short term. Amazon said that it will deliver drones during the daytime every day when weather conditions permit, and it can be implemented all year round, and the weight of packages delivered each time should not exceed 5 pounds. A spokesman for the company said that 87% of the products currently sold on Amazon.com weigh less than 5 pounds.
However, in the United States, because there are still doubts about the safety of drone delivery technology and the accuracy of navigation system, the government has not approved it, and Amazon's service of promoting drone delivery on a large scale in the United States has not been realized.
